It’s not often that we experience a young pianist of this calibre here in Falmouth. Marcelo Montes hails from Portugal and is visiting at the invitation of Annie Lovejoy and Mac Dunlop who first met him last year playing in the Igreja da Misericordia a wonderful church in the heart of Tavira. He can often be found in the church playing the Bechstein and also frequents the neighbouring arts bar Casa Álvaro de Campos dedicated to the Portuguese writer and poet Pessoa. Combining these two elements – piano and poetry – Marcelo and Mac performed an improvised session in the church and will develop their collaboration further while he is here
Marcelo also plays the Chinz Bar for Burns night (weds 25th January) along with local poets, before travelling up to Launceston for an intimate ‘salon’ performance at Cyprus Well the home of Charles Causley on Thursday January 26th – marking the beginning of many events throughout 2017 celebrating the 100th anniversary of Causley’s birth.
